ANSWER
What is a good HYROX time by age? No study splits HYROX results by age yet. The largest, of 186,411 results, put the middle Open finish at 1:26:47 for men and 1:30:37 for women, all ages. What masters research suggests for racers over 50.
What is a good HYROX time by age? No published study has split HYROX results by age group, so there is no research-backed answer for 50 to 54 or 60 to 64 yet. The largest study, of 186,411 race results across all ages, put the middle Open finish at 1:26:47 for men and 1:30:37 for women. Research on older endurance athletes suggests a racer over 50 should expect to be somewhat slower than that, and how much is still an estimate.
What Is a Good HYROX Time? The All-Ages Numbers
In 2026, researchers at the University of Granada published normal ranges for HYROX from 186,411 results in the official rankings, from the first race through the 2023/24 season. They reported each division's times at five points, from the fastest 10% to the slowest 10%. Two details matter before you compare yourself:
- Every age is pooled together. The paper does not break results down by age group.
- Only finishes under two hours were kept. Anyone slower was left out, so the real middle of the field is slower than these figures.
With those limits, here is how Open Singles finish times spread out:
- Open Men: fastest 10% under 1:11:26, middle finisher 1:26:47, slowest 10% over 1:46:36.
- Open Women: fastest 10% under 1:16:10, middle finisher 1:30:37, slowest 10% over 1:49:12.
Every division, including Doubles, Relay and each station, is on our HYROX benchmark times page.
HYROX Times by Age: What We Do and Don't Know
Since the HYROX research has no age split, the closest evidence comes from studies of masters endurance athletes in other sports.
A 2008 review in the Journal of Physiology by Tanaka and Seals described peak endurance performance as holding until about age 35, followed by modest decreases until 50 to 60, with steeper declines after that. The authors linked the decline mainly to a falling VO2max (the most oxygen your body can use), with a falling lactate threshold also playing a part.
A 2021 review in the International Journal of Sports Medicine by Ganse and Degens placed the point where the decline speeds up later, at about age 70. It also reported that larger long-term datasets showed similar rates of decline whether athletes were followed over time or compared across ages.
So the two reviews agree that performance falls with age in trained athletes, and they differ on when the drop gets steeper. Neither looked at HYROX.
One public estimate does put numbers on HYROX by age. The training site prommer.net lists the 50 to 54 age group as about 11.4% slower than 25 to 29 for men and about 9.8% slower for women. The site says its figures come from more than 700,000 race results from 2023 to 2025, but it does not publish its full method, and it notes that published averages skew faster because repeat racers dominate the data. It is not a peer-reviewed study, so read it as a rough guide.
The Field Keeps Getting Faster
Any benchmark is a snapshot. A 2026 study in Frontiers in Physiology analyzed seven seasons of HYROX PRO and ELITE results. Between seasons 4 and 7, men's and women's PRO times improved by about 8 to 10 minutes at the median.
The same study found that running made up about half of total race time, and faster running accounted for much of the improvement among the top 100 finishers. Strength-based stations added larger amounts of time among slower finishers. The first HYROX study, from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in 2025, found a similar picture in eleven recreational athletes: faster finishes were associated with a higher VO2max, more endurance training and lower body fat.
A Better Way to Judge Your Own Time After 50
With no age-group norms in the research, these comparisons are the ones the data can support:
- Your first race is your baseline. Your second race on the same format is the fairest comparison you have.
- Look at your splits, not only the total. Put your run time and each station time next to the all-ages percentiles. If your stations sit near the middle and your running sits near the back, that matches the studies above, where running time was most closely tied to total time.
- Compare with racers your age at your own event. They raced the same course on the same day.
- Finishing counts. The study's two-hour cutoff means anyone slower is missing from the numbers, not that a slower finish is a failure.
The HYROX race time calculator adds up a running pace and station times you enter, or works backward from a goal time, and shows where each split sits against the all-ages percentiles. It does not predict your time.
The Functional Fitness Protocol walks through every HYROX station, what a first race day looks like, and a 12-week transition plan for endurance athletes over 50 moving into HYROX or CrossFit.
